TEN THINGS TEACHERS WISH PARENTS WOULD DO |
|
1. Be involved. 2. Provide resources at home for learning. 3. Set a good example by showing that reading and learning are enjoyable and useful activities. 4. Encourage students to do their best in school. 5. Emphasize academics. Many parents get caught up in athletics and other social events. 6. Support school rules and goals. 7. Use pressure positively. Parents should emphasize achievement based upon what children are capable of doing, and not set unrealistic goals or schedule too many activities to meet needs of their own. 8. Call teachers early if there is a problem or family situation that teachers and counselors need to know about. 9. Accept responsibility as parents. Teach basic discipline at home rather than depending upon teachers and schools to do this. 10. View drinking and excessive partying as a serious matter. Alcohol is the drug most frequently abused by adults and youngsters. It takes a toll on classroom performance. |
